이 논문은 북한의 고등학교 「조선력사」의 고대사 인식에서 나타나는 민족 서사와 담론의 변화를 분석한다. 국가 형성 초기 유물사관에 기초했던 북한의 고등학교 역사 교과서는 1970년대 이후 주체사관이 정립되면서 반제국주의에 기반한 자주적 역사관을 강조했고, 이에 따라 신라의 삼국 통일을 깎아내리고 고구려와 발해의 민족관을 높이 평가했다. 1990년대 중반 이후에는 조선민족제일주의라는 기치 아래 단군조선의 역사를 복원하고 조선옛류형 사람을 도입하여 고조선의 민족사적 원류를 강조했다. 특히 김정은 정권의 2013년 교육과정 개정 이후에는 혈통 중심의 단일민족론을 정립하고 유물사관 및 주체사관과단군민족사관을 결합하여 고조선-고구려-발해의 민족사적 연속성과 평양 중심의 역사관을 내세우고 있다. 시대적, 정치적 변화에 따른 차별성에도 불구하고 북한의 고등학교 역사 교과서는 혈통 중심의 원초론적, 영속론적 근원주의에 입각한 민족 정체성 교육을 강화해 온 것이다. 이 논문은 국가 형성, 주체사관 형성, 단군역사 도입, 김정은 집권에 주목하여 1953년, 1982년, 2002년, 2013년 「조선력사」 교과서들의 고대사 인식과 민족 서사를 분석하고, 이를 통해 북한의 민족 정체성 교육이 어떻게 변화해 왔는지를 탐색한다.
Abstract
This article explores the changes in ancient history narratives and national discourse in North Korean high school history textbooks. North Korean history textbooks describe Korea’s ancient history based upon historical materialism during the early state building and emphasized anti-imperialism and the Juche view of history after the 1970s. As a result of this, they valued the history of Goguryeo and Balhae whereas they devalued the unification of three kingdoms by Silla. Since the mid-1990s, North Korea has restored the history of Dangun Joseon and highlighted the national origin of old Joseon by introducing the notion of an old type Korean people. In particular, since the 2013 curriculum revision, the North Korean regime has established the bloodline centered discourse of a single-race nation and stressed the national continuity of old Joseon, Goguryeo, and Balhae and a Pyongyang-centered view of history through fusing historical materialism and the view of Dangun nation into the Juche view of history. In spite of various historical and political changes, North Korean history textbooks have assumed the bloodline centered primordial, perennial fundamentalism and thus reinforced national identity education in this background. Through a comparative discursive analysis of the ancient history narrative and national discourse in the history textbooks published in 1953, 1982, 2002, and 2013, this article examines the historical changes in national identity education of North Korea.
