Abstract

This study aims to develop a teaching–learning strategy centered on group activities in elementary art classes and to examine its effects on students’ creativity, expressive ability, collaborative skills, and emotional attitudes. In response to the growing need to shift away from individual-centered, outcome-oriented art instruction toward a structure that emphasizes interaction and collaborative creation among learners, this research designed a three-session lesson plan based on two themes: Becoming a Fisherman and The Green Giant. Each lesson was organized around visual motifs of marine and terrestrial ecosystems and structured through appreciation, expression, and cooperation. Lower-grade elementary students participating in the classes engaged in individual expression using a variety of materials and then collaborated within groups to complete a joint artwork. Throughout this process, students naturally experienced creative thinking, self-expression, mutual respect, negotiation, and role-sharing. The findings suggest that group activity-based art education positively contributes to the development of students’ social skills, emotional stability, and artistic sensitivity. This study provides foundational data for the expansion of student-led and collaborative creation-centered instruction in elementary art education and highlights the educational value and practical potential of art classes based on group activities
