Abstract
Cho Seong-hwan was born in 1875 at Changnyeongjo's clan old house, which was located in botong-ri, Yeoju. When the Korean Imperial Army was disbanded in 1907, Cho Seong-hwan began his efforts to build an overseas independent base planned by the Sinminhoe. In January 1908, he sought an independent military base in Primorsky. Then in 1909, he set out to build an independence movement base in Beijing, China. Since then, Cho has launched a full-fledged independence movement abroad. It is estimated that his birthplace located in botong-ri was sold around this time. Cho Seong-hwan participated in the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in 1919, and served as deputy chief of military affairs. He moved to Primorsky and Manchuria in late 1919. In 1926, when the the National United Party Movement was advocated, he served as an executive secretary of the Beijing branch of the Korean Independence Party and re-linked with the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. He was elected to the State Council in 1932 when the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea moved to Hangzhou. Since then, he has been a key factor in the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. Cho spent most of his time in China, Manchuria and Primorsky, until Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. Cho Seong-hwan, who returned to Korea after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, had no property, so he stayed at Naksanjang(駱山莊) for the rest of his life and died on October 7, 1948. His funeral was held at the training center, which was the barracks of the Korean Imperial Army. His funeral was attended by Kim Gu, Cho So-ang, Cho Wan-koo, and Um Hang-seop, who guarded the provisional government of the Republic of Korea together, and Vice President Lee Si-young was the chairman of the funeral. The remains of Cho's funeral show the camaraderie of independence colleagues who shared their exile.
