자살행동 청소년의 극복과정에 관한 질적연구

자살행동 경험이 있는 청소년들의 중심현상에 대한 원인을 파악하고 극복과정을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 Strauss와 Corbin (1990)의 근거이론 접근법을 적용하여 자살에 관련된 개인의 심리사회적 과정을 분석하고, 자살행동 청소년들의 경험세계에 접근하고자 하였다. 연구결과 참여자들이 경험한 ‘절망의 몸부림’은 죽고자 하는 ‘자살’이 아닌 ‘살기 위한 몸부림’으로 나타났다. 비록 청소년의 자살행동이 아픔의 극치를 경험하고 고통으로부터 벗어나기 위한 해결책으로 주변에 도움을 요청하는 수단이기도 하지만, 동시에 고통으로부터 벗어나 편안함을 기대하는 바람이기도 했다. 도출된 현상을 시간의 흐름에 따라 지속적으로 비교 분석한 결과 5단계의 과정으로 나타났다. 즉 ‘소극적 대처단계’, ‘적극적 대처단계’, ‘변화시작단계’, ‘변화유지단계’, ‘극복단계’이다. 이러한 과정은 참여자들의 경험에 따라 순차적으로 나타났으며, 흐름의 방향은 외적요인에서 내적요인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 외부에 의존하던 모습이 건강한 자기를 찾음으로써 외부와 분리되어 진정한 자기를 찾아가는 과정으로 보인다. 이러한 연구 결과를 중심으로 상담학적 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study explored the reasons of key phenomena of suicidal behaviors in adolescents and the overcoming process of how adolescents cope with those suicidal phenomena. Based on the grounded theory approach presented by Strauss and Corbin(1990), this study has investigated thoroughly the personal psychosocial process regarding suicide and approached wholistic experiences of suicidal behaviors in adolescents. As results, the ‘desperate struggling’ experienced by the participants is confirmed in this study as ‘struggling to survive’ hoping to live happier later instead of ‘suggesting suicide.’ Although they considered suicide to escape from suffering after having experienced the ultimate in pain, or to ask others for help, they hoped for the ease of life, escaping from pain. It is confirmed to consist of five stages, regarding the overcoming process of suicidal behaviors when compared and analyzed in chronological order, which are ‘passive coping’, ‘active coping’, ‘to start for change’, ‘to maintain the change’ and ‘to cope with the situation’ stages. Each stage appears sequentially depending on the participants’ experiences and the process of each stage is influenced by external factors to internal factors. The stages can be viewed as process of finding real selves and separating themselves from external factors through the experience of realizing healthy selves from the ones depending on externals. On the basis of these results, counseling implications were discussed.
