Abstract

Hair can be important trace evidence at a crime scene. Microscopic analysis of animal hair samples may provide valuable information helpful for criminal investigation in forensic science. Hair microstructure is composed do three layers of keratin: medulla, cortex and cuticle, from the innermost to the outermost. Medulla is described by pattern(continuous, interrupted, absent), structure(amorphous, uniseriate, multiseriate, reticular, lattice) and margin form(straight, scalloped). This study was to provide the basis of database as to animal hair observing the microscopic characteristics such as diameter of the guard hair shaft, medullar pettern, structure, form of margins, medullary index of twenty species animal hair.
