Abstract

DNA profiling is a powerful investigation tool in analyzing evidences from crime scenes. Recently, touched evidences has become increasingly important for solving criminal cases. In this study, we analyzed DNA profiling success rate from touched evidences. When evidences were classified by types of material, DNA profiling success rate were observed 59.8% and 50.8% in evidences made from vinyl and evidences made from fabric, respectively. In types of crime, death from a fall was showed high DNA profiling success rate (45.9%), these cases were consisted of vinyl or fabric type evidences which were shown relatively high DNA profiling success rates. When evidences were classified by frequencies of touch, the highest DNA profiling success rate was observed in evidences classified by clothes accessories (67.3%) and followed by evidences personal belongings (53.6%). These results has shown that the higher frequency of touched items, the better results in DNA profiling. In success rate of DNA profiling in non-swab samples were showed substantially higher success rate than swab samples, and Identifiler Plus kit was more effective in touched DNA analysis because of its highly sensitivity.
