초록

The early of 21st century sees the revival of 3D-Stereoscopy boom of the 1950s, 1970s, and 1980s. In order to seek out the implications of its revival on the modern image or graphic art, this paper reviews the historical evolution of the concept of "virtual space". From the ancient times, human beings' effort for the "representation" of reality has been continued. With the development of science and techniques, abstract and simple paintings in the stone age evolved to digital 3D-stereoscopic movies in this digital era. Especially recent computer graphic techniques supported by the most advanced digital technology make it possible to create a spectacular virtual world in the movie, which is not easily distinguished from the real one by spectators. This revolutionary accomplishment brings about drastic changes in the concept and the scope of "virtual space" expressed in movies. This paper derives the implications of "virtual space" in the 3D-Stereoscopy, based on the concepts of "Simulacre" presented by Gilles Deleuze and Jean Baudrillard. And with the results, the outlines of its future are briefly sketched.
