Abstract

The importance of scientific investigation in investigating crimes today is becoming increasingly important. The collection and analysis of evidence is very important in investigating crimes and arresting criminals. In May of 2016, as reorganized the “Korea Crime Scene Investigation(KCSI)” of the Korean National Police Agency, Police’s scientific investigation become more important in the police organization. However, there has been a question as to whether there has been much concern about the selection or management of the personnel who perform scientific investigations during these decades of change. This study examined the problems of selection and management of current Crime Scene Investigator and the alternatives to overcome them. As a result, the first thing needed is the expansion of the scientific investigation labor force. The lack of the scientific investigation labor force has been constantly raised before and needs to be expanded beyond the current personnel. Second, Crime Scene Investigator’s professionalism needs to be enhanced. Lastly, it is necessary to develop educational programs for Crime Scene Investigator. In the long term, fostering of scientific investigation experts is very important for the future and development of scientific investigation in Korea, and it is also necessary for securing professional expertise of Crime Scene Investigator.
