경찰정당성에 대한 합의된 정의가 존재하지 않은 상황에서 Tyler의 경찰정당성 개념과는 다르게 경찰정당성을 해석하고 검증하려는 연구가 최근 진행되고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 우리나라에서 다차원 경찰정당성 모형(Multidimensional Model of Police Legitimacy)을 검증하고 그 결과에 따른 정책적 함의를 제시하는 것이다. 이 연구의 데이터는 만 20세-59세 이하 서울특별시에 거주하고 있는 시민 543명으로부터 수집되었다. OLS 회귀분석 결과 다차원 경찰정당성 인식은 경찰협력(Police Cooperation)에 유의미한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 경찰정당성은 법준수 의무감을 매개하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 법준수 의무감을 매개하지 않았다는 사실은 다차원 경찰정당성 모형이 전통적인 Tyler(1990)의 경찰정당성 모형보다 다차원 경찰정당성 모형이 우리나라의 현상을 설명하는데 적합할 수 있음을 의미한다.
Abstract
Unlike Tyler's existing concept of police legitimacy today, research is being conducted to interpret and verify police legitimacy diffidently. The purpose of this study is to verify the Multidimensional Model of Police Legitimacy in Korea and to suggest policy implications according to the results. Data for this study were collected from 543 citizens between the ages of 20 and 59 living in Seoul. As a result of the OLS regression analysis, it was found that the perception of multidimensional police legitimacy had a significant positive (+) effect on citizens' willingness to cooperate. As a result of the study, it was found that police legitimacy did not mediate a sense of duty to comply with the law. The fact that it did not mediate the sense of duty to comply suggests that the multidimensional police legitimacy model may be suitable to explain the phenomenon in Korea.
