Abstract
This study assesses whether environmental vulnerabilities to housing and neighborhoods directly influence general fear of crime, and whether perceived disorder plays a mediating role in such a relationship. The secondary data from the "2020 National Crime Victimization Survey" by the Korean Institute of Criminology and Justice were used for analysis. Findings revealed that the vulnerability perceptions of housing access control, surveillance in neighborhoods, and the local environment have statistically significant positive (+) indirect effects on general fear of crime, and perceived disorder has a mediating effect between the relationship. The CPTED based projects to improve the vulnerability of housing and neighborhoods are suggested as a way to revitalize the community by alleviating the fear of crime in the region. Further implications for policies and future research were discussed based on the findings.
