폭력범죄의 두려움에 영향을 미치는 사회통제모형 분석: 무질서모형의 매개효과를 중심으로

이 연구는 폭력범죄 피해의 두려움에 영향을 미치는 무질서, 이웃통합, 공식적 사회통제 모형 중에서 어떤 요인이 지역 주민들의 범죄두려움을 가장 잘 설명하는지를 규명하는 것이 주된 연구 목적이었다. 분석을 위해 이 연구는 한국형사법무정책연구원이 2018년에 수집한 ‘전국범죄피해조사 2018’ 자료를 사용하였다. 회귀분석 결과, 폭력범죄의 두려움을 가장 잘 설명하는 모형은 무질서 모형이었으며 그 중에서 사회적 무질서 변인의 설명력이 가장 뛰어난 것으로 드러났다. 구조방정식 분석결과, 매개변인인 무질서 변인은 회귀분석 결과와 마찬가지로 범죄의 두려움에 가장 영향력이 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다. 독립변인들의 직접효과와 간접효과 분석결과, 공식적 사회통제의 직접효과는 무질서를 매개한 간접효과보다 약하게 나타남에 따라 공식적 사회통제는 직접적으로 폭력범죄의 두려움에 영향을 미치기 보다는 무질서 요인을 매개하여 간접적으로 범죄의 두려움에 미치는 영향력이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 한편 이웃통합의 직접효과는 간접효과보다 큰 것으로 나타남에 따라 이웃통합은 무질서를 매개하지 않고 직접적으로 범죄의 두려움에 영향을 더 많이 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 범죄두려움 중에서 폭력범죄 피해의 두려움을 개인적 수준(범죄피해경험 모형과 범죄취약성 모형)이 아닌 사회통제적 수준에서 분석했다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다. 특히 범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 무질서, 이웃통합, 공식적 사회통제 모형을 적용하여 폭력범죄 피해의 두려움에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지를 비교분석하였다는 점에서 학술적 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to explain which factors among disorder, neighborhood integration, and formal social control models that affect fear of violent crime best explain the fear of crime in local residents. For the analysis, this study used data from the ‘Korean Crime Victim Survey in 2018’ collected by the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice. As a result of regression analysis, the model that best explains the fear of violent crime was the disorder model, and among them, the social disorder variable showed the best explanatory power. As a result of structural equation analysis, the disorder variable was found to have the greatest influence on the fear of crime, as the regression analysis result. As a result of analyzing the direct and indirect effects of independent variables, it was found that formal social control had a greater effect on fear of crime indirectly by mediating disorder factors rather than directly affecting fear of violent crime. On the other hand, as the direct effect of neighborhood integration was larger than the indirect effect, neighborhood integration did not mediate disorder and directly affected the fear of crime more. This study is meaningful in that it analyzed the fear of violent crime among fears of crime at the social control level rather than the individual level. In particular, it has academic significance in that it compared and analyzed the factors that most influence the fear of violent crime by applying the models of disorder, neighborhood integration, and formal social control that affect fear of crime.
