백석의 「여승」에 대한 인지시학적 분석-<길 도식>을 중심으로

본고는 백석의 여승 에 내재해 있는 은유 체계와 인지 구조를 ‘인지의미론’에 의거하여 분석하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 그 과정에서 먼저, 레이코프와 존슨, 터너가 강조하는 ‘인지의미론’의 주요 개념들에 대하여 살펴보았다. 그것은 ‘카테고리’와 ‘가족적 유사성’과 ‘인지 모델’ 그리고 ‘은유’와‘신체화된 경험과 상상력’과 ‘이미지 도식’ 등에 대한 개관이었다. 다음으로, 「여승」 의 시적 구조에 ‘인지시학’에서 강조하고 있는 ‘이미지도식’과 ‘은유’를 구체적으로 적용해 보았다. 이것은 시행 단위에 사용된단일 ‘은유’에 기초한 1차적 분석과 시 전편에 사용된 게슈탈트적 ‘은유’체계에 입각한 2차적 분석의 두 단계 과정을 통해 이루어졌다. 특히 ‘인지언어학자’들이 제시한 <길 도식>과 <인생은 여행이다> 은유를 지배적인근원 영역으로 하여 「여승」 의 목표 영역에 사상하는 데 집중하였다. 그리하여 우리 민족의 디아스포라라는 시대적 상황을 만날 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 백석의 디아스포라에 대한 인식은 일제 강점기뿐만이 아니라현재 분단 국가를 살아가고 있는 우리 민족사의 트라우마임을 강조하면서,「여승」 이 지니고 있는 보편성과 현재성의 힘에 주목하였다. 이 예술의 힘이야말로 ‘수용 미학’과 맞닿아 있는 ‘인지시학’이라는 모던한 시론이 도달하고자 하는 창조적 인지가 될 것이라고 확신했기 때문이었다.
Abstract
In this article I aimed at analysing on the cognitive structure such as the metaphor system and the image schema which were inherent in Baek Seok's The Nun , according to the 'cognitive semantics'. First, I investigated some of main ideas of the 'cognitive semantics' which George Lakoff, Mark Johnson and Mark Turner emphasized on. It was the outline of 'category', 'family resemblances', 'cognitive model', 'metaphor', 'embodied experience and imagination', 'image schema' and so on. And then I applied 'metaphor' and 'image schema' specifically which were highlighted in the 'cognitive poetics' to the poetic structure of The Nun . It was composed of two steps: the first analysis based on the simple 'metaphor'used in the lines of the poem and the second analysis based on the gestalt 'metaphor' system used throughout the poem. Particularly I concentrated on mapping the target domain of The Nun by making the source domain of <path schema> and <LIFE IS A JOURNEY> metaphor suggested by 'cognitive linguists'. Therefore I could reach to the circumstances of times called diaspora of our people. Finally I paid attention to the power of universality and nowness of Baek Seok's The Nun , putting emphasis on the idea that her perception of diaspora is the trauma of our people who were living in the divided nation as well as people who had lived during the Japanese colonial era. It's because I was convinced that the power of art would become the creative cognition that modern art of poetry called 'cognitive poetics' that was associated with 'aesthetics of reception' would like to reach.
