Abstract
This study aims to predict the development of the global containership fleet using System Dynamics and various factors such as containership fleet development, containership contracts, deliveries, scrap, idle fleet, and SCFI. The analysis shows that the containership contract in 2021 was 4.34 million TEU, significantly higher than the 1.03 million TEU in 2020, and predicts that containership deliveries from 2023 to 2024 will reach around 4.31 million TEU, four times more than in 2019. Containership scrap is expected to be 250,000 TEU in 2023, 860,000 TEU in 2024, and 750,000 TEU in 2025. The simulation predicts that the global containership capacity will increase by 24%, 31%, and 32% in 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively, compared to 2019. There is a risk of a ship oversupply phenomenon occurring again after 2023 due to the high number of ships ordered during the COVID-19 period.
