본 연구는 부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 자녀의 경험을 이해함으로서 이들에 대한 실천적 대안을 모색하는 데에 목적이 있다. ‘부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 자녀 경험의 본질과 그 의미는 무엇인가?’의 연구문제를 가지고, Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구 참여자는 부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 10대 청소년 7명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰하였다. 연구결과, 명확한 의미 116개가 추출되었으며, 18개의 주제로 유목화하여 8개의 중심의미가 도출되었고 그 경험을 통합적으로 기술하였다. 부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 자녀 경험의 중심의미로는 ‘소름끼친 폭력이 집에서 이루어짐’, ‘살과 뼈를 깎는 모성애가 있음’, ‘폭력에 무기력한 엄마가 익숙해짐’, ‘아빠를 닮아가는 나를 발견함’, ‘자아가 파괴되어감’, ‘서로 품고 살아남은 핏줄이 있음’, ‘부모의 멍에를 끌어안은 채 상처의 덫에 걸림’이 도출되었다. 이러한 중심의미를 통해 부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 자녀의 경험은 ‘문틈을 통해 대면한 부모의 불행한 인생의 덫에 걸려 발버둥 침’으로 경험하게 됨이 분석되었다. 본 연구결과를 통해 가정폭력 실천 현장의 전문가들에게 부부폭력을 목격하고 자란 자녀에 대한 실질적인 프로그램 개발 및 실천 지침의 기초자료를 제공하는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 연구결과에 기반하여 실천적, 정책적 개입 방안을 논의하였다.
Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to understand the experience of children who had witnessed violence between their parents and to seek practical measures for working with them. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with seven teenagers who had witnessed violence between their parents. Data from the interviews were analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological study method in order to derive the essence and meanings of the participants’ experiences. Results: By categorizing the data into 18 themes, the author extracted 116 clear meanings and formed 8 central meanings. Based on central meanings such as “Mother is lackadaisical in response to violence” and “I take after my father,” the experience of children who had witnessed violence between their parents was summarized as “Struggling in a trap of parents’ unhappy life.” Conclusion: The author offered practice and policy intervention guidelines forthe development of programs that target children who have witnessed violence between their parents.
