Abstract

The Act on the Protection and Support of the Rights of the People with Development Disabilities provided a practical basis for socially resolving fundamental problems caused by developmental disabilities and ensuring the provision of rights and welfare services. The Development Disabilities Act was enacted to address these needs and problems in other areas of disability due to a lack of self-determination and communication difficulties, a characteristic of people with developmental disabilities. The Development Disabilities Act provides the necessary matters to ensure the rights of people with developmental disabilities and to provide support services according to their characteristics and welfare needs in a systematic and effective manner. Also, it aims to promote social participation of people with developmental disabilities, protect their rights, and live humanly. The medical institution specifies self-determination, use of age-old post-age system, support for communication, formation of self-help groups, criminal and judicial rights protection, and a special investigation system for people with developmental disabilities. Specific support measures should be prepared to increase the effectiveness of potential declarative legal matters.
