인구가 밀집된 메가시티에서 상습적인 도심 교통정체 문제를 해결하기 위한 대안으로 3차원 교통수단인 도심항공모빌리티(UAM)에 대한 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 이에 따라 세계 유수의 전략 컨설팅업체들은 미래 신산업인 UAM 산업에 대한 높은 기대가 반영된 시장전망을 경쟁적으로 발표하였다. UAM은 도심 내 운항이라는 운용개념을 고려할 때 안전과 소음 문제가 가장 중요한 기술적 핵심이슈로 고려되고 있다. UAM이 기존 교통체계에 편입되기 위해서는 기술적인 측면 뿐만 아니라 잠재적 이용객들이 UAM을 기존 육상교통수단의 대체수단으로 선택할 의사를 가지도록 유도할 수 있는 대중적 수용성이 확보되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 전 세계적으로 UAM 개발업체 중 Joby Aviation, Volocopter, EHang 등 선두그룹으로 분류되는 주요 업체들의 개발 현황을 중심으로 UAM 산업 동향을 고찰하였다. 또한 현재 항공선진국인 미국, 유럽을 비롯하여 우리나라에서 진행되고 있는 UAM 정책 동향을 고찰하면서 태동하는 UAM 산업 성장 및 생태계 조성을 위해 선결되어야 할 과제들을 분석하였다.
Abstract
As an alternative to solving the frequent traffic congestion problem in a densely populated mega city, the necessity of three-dimensional urban air mobility (UAM) is getting emphasized. The world's leading strategy consulting firms have competitively announced market outlooks reflecting high expectations for the UAM industry. With respect to technology for UAM, both safety and noise issues are seriously considered because of the concept of intra-city operation. In this paper, the industry trend for UAM was investigated, focusing on the current development status of representative leading companies such as Joby Aviation, Volocopter, and EHang. In addition, we analyzed the challenges to advance the growth of emerging UAM industry and its ecosystem through reviewing UAM policy trends in the US and Europe
