Abstract

This study proposes an AI-based framework for predicting peer relationship problems among elementary students by analyzing their diary texts. Leveraging natural language processing and machine learning techniques, the model extracts emotional and relational features from student-generated narratives and predicts the severity of peer-related difficulties based on the Korean Inventory of Peer Relationships (KIPR). A total of 205 diary entries were collected and analyzed. Sentence embeddings were enhanced using an emotion-weighted strategy that adjusts vector representations based on the intensity of negative expressions. In addition, contextual features such as emotional ratios and frequency of friend-related expressions were incorporated into the model. Among the tested regression models, the XGBoost-based architecture with expanded input features demonstrated the best performance across the three KIPR subscales: lack of confidence and social withdrawal, aggression and control, and excessive consideration. The proposed framework also includes a qualitative module that identifies the emotional target, classifies conflict types, and detects cumulative emotional risk. These results show the potential of student-generated texts as context-sensitive data sources for understanding peer relationship issues, and suggest practical applicability in educational settings by enabling early identification and timely intervention.
