본 논문은 조선시대 기행일기의 범주에 대해 논한 것으로서, 기존연구에서의 기행일기 범주를 살펴보고, 기존연구에서 의견이 엇갈렸던 부분을 중심으로 기행일기 범주에 대한 필자의 의견을 제시하였다. 먼저 2장에서는 기존연구에서의 기행일기 범주를 살피되, 일기를 전체적으로 분류한 연구를 통해 파악하였다. 1990년대 연구에서는 기행일기의 범주에 있어 차이를 보여, 사행일기, 유배일기, 표류일기 등을 기행일기에 넣을지, 따로 분류할 지에 대해 견해가 엇갈렸다. 2000년대 이후에는 사행일기, 유배일기가 별도의 일기 장르로 분류되고 있으며, 표류일기는 별도로 분류되지 않고 있다. 3장에서는 다음과 같은 세 가지 부분에서 필자의 견해를 제시하였다. 첫째, 특정한 내용의 작품 수가 독보적으로 많아 별도로 분류하는 게 효율적인 경우, 기행일기와는 다른 장르로 나누었으면 한다. 이에 해당하는 것은 바로 사행일기이다. 둘째, 여정이 들어있으나 다른 장르에 해당하는 내용이 일기의 중심일 경우, 중심 내용에 해당하는 장르로 넣었으면 한다. 강학일기, 관직일기, 유배일기, 전쟁일기, 장례일기 등이 이에 해당한다. 셋째, 특별한 사건을 이유로 여정을 떠났으나 여정에서 보게 된 것들이 일기의 중심인 경우, 기행일기에 넣었으면 한다. 과거시험·제사를 위한 여정 등을 담은 일기가 이에 해당한다.
Abstract
This study discusses the category of Joseon-era travel diaries by reviewing the category from previous studies, and by examining the conflicting opinions of the issue in previous studies. First, Chapter 2 examines the category of travel diaries in previous studies by categorizing the entirety of the diaries. Studies from the 1990s offered mixed opinions on the category of travel diaries, thus conflicting over whether to incorporate emissary travel diaries, exile diaries, and sea-drifting diaries into the category of travel diaries. Studies from the 2000s and subsequent years classified emissary diaries and exile diaries as a separate genre with the sea-drifting diaries remaining not classified. Chapter 3 offers the author's opinions in the following three areas. First, since the number of works with certain contents are overwhelmingly many, so if it is efficient to categorize these works as a different category, they are advised to be categorized into a genre different from travel diaries. This category is the very emissary diaries. Second, the diaries, which contain the contents of travel but focus on the contents of a different genre, should be categorized into a different genre that they should belong to. This category includes lecturing diaries, office-service diaries, exile diaries, and funeral diaries. Third, the diaries in which the authors, who are on trip for special reasons, describe mainly what they see during their travels, should be categorized into travel diaries. This category includes itineraries associated with the prestigious government official recruitment examinations, etc.
