조선후기 전주류씨 함벽당涵碧堂의 관계망과 그 특징

Abstract

A network displays an aspect of social nature of certain individuals and groups. This paper presents an investigation into the network of Hambyeokdang in the Ryu family of Jeonju in Andong during the latter part of Joseon. “Toigye studies” and “families” held important political and social implications in Yeongnam during the latter part of Joseon. The Toigye School was divided into various groups. In the end, the Seoae line (Ryu Seong-ryong lie) whose main stage was in the western part of Andong and the Hakbong lie (Kim Seong-il line) whose main stage was in the eastern part played leading roles. The Ryu family of Jeonju led the Hakbong line. In Andong, the Ryu family of Jeonju married the Kim family of Uiseong in the Cheonjeon village and settled down in the Sugok village of Imhahyeon in the eastern area of Andong-bu where the wife’s family had a financial foundation. Since then, the Ryu family of Jeonju expanded their residence in the surrounding area. Ryu Hak at the age of 11 moved the family to the western part of Andong-bu close to his wife’s family in the former half of the 17th century. His descendents called “Hambyeokdang” formed new marriage and academic networks with distinguished families in the western part of Andong-bu and nearby towns including Sunheung-bu, Yecheon-kun, and Bonghwa-eup. Hambyeokdang lived in an area close to the residence of the Seoae line for generations and thus had a high level of social intercourse with figures of the Seoae line, but they still belonged to the Hakbong line. Against this backdrop, they played the roles of mitigating and coordinating intense division and confrontation between the Seoae and Hakbong line in the 19th century.
