본 논문은 晩聞 李時馣(1607∼1644)의 ｢병정생사록｣의 내용과 문학적 특성을 고찰한 것이다. 2장에서는 작가 이시암의 생애와 창작 배경을, 3장에서는 ｢병정생사록｣의 서술 관점과 기록 내용을, 4장에서는 ｢병정생사록｣의 표현상 특징을 살폈다. 뛰어난 문학적 재능을 타고난 이시암은 혼란과 부조리가 만연했던 전란의 경험을 반추하여 ｢병정생사록｣을 저술하였다. ｢병정생사록｣에는 이시암의 자신과 타인의 시선이 교차되고 있다. 자신의 관점에서는 전쟁의 위기 속에서 관리의 임무를 다한 자신의 서사를 서술하여 자신의 입장을 해명하고 스스로를 위안하였다. 타인의 관점에서는 전란 시기 조선의 혼란상과 부조리를 기술하여, 관리의 부패ㆍ무능과 국가 기강의 해이를 증언하였다. ｢병정생사록｣은 ‘보여주기’의 방식으로 자신과 타인의 경험을 생생히 전달한다. 표면적으로는 實記이지만, 내용상으로 劇的 요소와 장치가 활용된 ‘사회비평적 극문학’으로서의 성격이 강하다. 익명화와 대비를 통한 특정 인물 서사의 부각, 대화와 묘사를 통한히 재현, 일화와 논평을 통한 내용의 압축 등을 통해, 인물ㆍ장면ㆍ논평(방백)의 극적 요소를 곳곳에 배치하여 한 편의 드라마처럼 전쟁을 기록하였다. 개인의 전란 체험을 문학적으로 승화시킨 ｢병정생사록｣은, 이렇게 병자호란의 비극적 체험을 문학의 소재로, 과거의 병폐를 현재의 과제로 전환시키고 있다.
Abstract
Lee Si-am (李時馣), who was highly gifted with literary talent, wrote Byeongjeongsaengsarok, reflecting on his experience during the war, which was full of chaos and absurdity. In this work, both Lee’s own and others' perspectives intersect. From his own perspective, he recounted his own narrative of his duties as an administrator during the crisis of war, thereby clarifying his position and comforting himself. From the perspective of others, by describing the chaos and absurdity of Joseon during the war, he testified to the corruption and incompetence of officials and the weakening of national discipline. Byeongjeongsaengsarok vividly conveys the writer’s own and others’ experiences through the method of ‘showing’. On the surface, it is a true story, but in terms of content, it has a strong character as a ‘socially critical dramatic piece’ that utilizes dramatic elements and devices. By highlighting the narrative of specific characters through anonymization and contrast, reproducing them through dialogue and description, and compressing the content through anecdotes and commentary, the war was recorded like a drama by placing dramatic elements of characters, scenes, and commentary (a stage aside) throughout. Byeongjeongsaengsarok which sublimates an individual’s wartime experience into a literary work, uses the tragic experience of the Byeongjahoran (丙子胡亂) as a literary material to transform past evils into present-day issues.
