본 논문은 인도네시아 북부술라웨시 미나하사 지역에서 발견되는 다양한 유형의 태초설화의 서사적 내용과 구성적 특징을 Claude Lévi-Strauss의 구조인류학(structural anthropology) 방법론을 응용하여 분석하고, 글로벌화라는 맥락에서 미나하사 태초설화가 어떻게 재토착화하고 혼종화하였는지 고찰해보고자 한다. 이를 통해서 단순히 이상적인 문화구조주의적 현상 자체에 초점을 맞추고 고찰하기보다는 어떠한 서사적 내용과 구성이 구체적으로 어떻게 재토착화하고 혼종화되었는지를 들여다 보고자 한다. 따라서 본 논문은 미나하사 태초설화의 서사적 텍스트에 대한 구조인류학적 분석을 통해서 기존의 동남아시아 문화연구의 문화구성주의적 논의를 진전시키는 사례연구가 되어 줄 것으로 기대한다. 본 논문은 다음과 같이 구성되어 있다. 우선, 본 논문은 글로벌화와 혼종화의 이슈를 검토한다. 둘째, 미나하사 태초설화의 그리스도교화에 대한 이해를 돕기 위해서 미나하사의 그리스도교화의 역사적 전개과정을 고찰한다. 셋째, 본 논문의 주 분석 텍스트인 미나하사 태초설화들의 유형과 선정 배경을 소개한다. 마지막으로, 구조인류학적 분석방법을 기반으로 미나하사 태초설화들를 비교분석한 후, 이를 바탕으로 오늘날 미나하사 지역에서 전개되는 재토착화의 문화적 논리를 설명하면서 결론을 맺는다.
Abstract
The paper analyzes, using the structural analysis of Claude Lévi-Strauss, the narrative and structural properties of Minahsan creation myths in North Sulwawesi, Indonesia. Then it attempts to examine the hybridization, reconstruction and transformation of the Minahasan creation myths in the context of globalization. In doing so, the paper dose not only intend to describe the ideal cultural constructivist phenomena but to analyze how the narrative and structural contents have been specifically re-localized and hybridized. Therefore, the paper is expected to contribute to the cultural constructivist discussions in Southeast Asian Cultural Studies. The paper consists of the followings. First, it reviews theoretical discussions of globalizaton and hybridization. Secondly, it introduces the history of Christianization in Minahasa. Thirdly, it discusses the types and selection criteria of Minahasan myths. Lastly, it comparatively analyzes Minahsan creation myths and then it concludes by saying something about the logic of re-localization in Minahasa.
