Abstract
The present study was to develop a self-report measure of nonsuicidal self-injury beliefs. Positive, negative, and facilitating composition concepts that Korean adolescents perceive either individually or interpersonally are reflected. Through literature review, open questionnaires, and expert interviews, an initial pool of 101 items were selected, and a 3-factor model was derived. An exploratory factor analysis(EFA) of the preliminary survey with a sample of 764 adolescents in Korea resulted in a 3-factor, 19-item scale, with each factor labeled as facilitating, dependence, and interpersonal advantage. Then, confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) with a sample of 470 adolescents in Korea was used to cross validate the structure derived from the EFA. Limitations of the current study and future directions for this research were discussed.
