Abstract
This study compared and analyzed Korean and Thai directional verbs. Directional verbs are a kind of auxiliary conjugated words which are, for example, pay, maa, keun, long, khaw, eok in the Thai language and 가다, 오다, 지다, 들다, 나다, 내다 in the Korean language. The results of analyzing these directional verbs show that paj, maa and 가다, 오다; keun, long and 오르다, 내리다, 지다, 내다; khaw and 들다; eok and 나다, 내다 represent the same direction to a certain extent. But these Thai and Korean words sometimes represent the opposite direction since Korean is spoken on a speaker basis and Thai is spoken on a hearer basis. The study on such directional verbs can confirm the linguistic universality that the natural language possesses and at the same time it is expected to provide the learners of the Thai language with the efficiency of the language education.
