초록

This study examines and compare the beliefs of Koreans and Thais as reflected in the names of flowers. The analysis of Korean flower names is based on Oh Keumhee( 2010), while the analysis of Thai flower names is derived from a dictionary of Thai ornamental plants and flowers compiled by Vit Thiangburanatham (1999), totaling 300 entries. The findings indicate that both Koreans and Thais share several common beliefs, including: 1) beliefs in auspicious numbers, 2) beliefs in auspicious animals, 3) beliefs in auspicious colors, 4) beliefs rooted in religion, 5) beliefs associated with the environment, 6) beliefs in the symbolic significance of gems and 7) beliefs in individuals with magical powers who are human. However, beliefs related to auspicious seasons are uniquely present in Korean flower names.
