폭력적 대민접촉경험으로 인한 경찰관의 직무스트레스와 문제음주와의 관계 연구

초록

본 연구는 경찰관이 시민들로부터 당하는 폭력적 접촉경험과 문제음주와의 관련성에 초점을 맞추어 경찰관의 스트레스 해소정책 수립에 도움이 되는 기초 자료를 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 2011년 경찰대학과 경찰교육원에 기본교육을 받고 있는 763명의 경찰관을 상대로 자기 보고식 조사를 실시하여 수집한 자료를 대상으로 하였다. 수집한 데이터는 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Model)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 폭력적 대민접촉이 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향, 직무스트레스가 문제음주에 미치는 영향관계에서 유의한 인과관계가 나타나지 않았으며, 폭력적 대민접촉을 중한 폭력과 경미한 폭력의 2개의 잠재변수로 구분하였을 때, 중한 폭력과 문제음주 사이에도 유의한 관계가 나타나지 않았다. 다만, 경미한 폭력만이 문제음주에 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 결론적으로, 과거의 경찰과 달리 현재의 경찰관들은 직무스트레스를 느낄지라도 문제가 될 정도의 과다한 음주를 하지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 경찰관들은 스포츠나 다양한 취미생활을 통하여 스트레스를 해소하기를 희망할 것으로 판단되므로 경찰관에게 여가시간을 보장하는 정책도입이 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide a empirical materials in establishing police officers' stress solution policy. This study is focused on the relations between police officers' violence victimization experience and problem drinking. For this study, data of 763 self-report survey of police officers, being educated in Police University, Police Training Institute in 2011, were used. To analysis this study SEM(Structural Equation Model) method was conducted. The results are as follows. First, the result of SEM analysis shows that there isn't a significant causal relationship between violence victimization experience and problem drinking. This result is contrary to the many previous studies. The path-coefficient from stress caused violence experience to problem drinking is -0.004 and it isn't significant. Second, the relationship between aggravated assault and problem drinking isn't significant too. Only a slight assault is a significant factor to the problem drinking. In conclusion, problem drinking doesn't have any relationship with job stress and police officers are seeking other alternatives to solve their stress, for example sports, enjoying variety of hobbies. So guaranteeing free time for police officers could attribute to their stress solving.
