시민들의 언어적·신체적 폭력이 일선경찰관들의 정신적 스트레스증상에 미치는 영향

초록

본 연구는 최일선에서 근무하는 지역경찰관들이 겪는 다양한 스트레스 요인들과 이러한 스트레스의 영향으로 인해 경험할 수 있는 신경계질환 중 우울증상과 불안증상과의 영향관계를 검증하여 정책적 제안을 도출하고자 한다. 전통적 경찰스트레스 요인으로 알려진 위험, 조직문화, 열악한 업무환경, 직장-가정갈등 관련 요인들 외에도 우리경찰에 특유하게 적용되는 일명 “공권력 추락현상”과 관련된 스트레스 요인을 주요 영향요인으로 선정하여 주효과, 상호작용효과, 매개효과 모형을 각각 분석하였다. 분석결과, 조직문화, 직장-가정갈등, 공권력 추락현상 관련 스트레스 요인들이 결과변수에 통계적으로 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 스트레스 요인 자체가 결과변수에 미치는 영향보다 개개 경찰관이 과연 어떤 방법으로 스트레스에 대처하느냐가 더 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 정책적 시사점 및 추후 연구에 대한 함의를 제시하였다.

Abstract

The current study aims to examine the effects of police stressors on the perceived depression and anxiety symptoms among a sample of frontline police officers. In addition to considering traditional police stressors such as danger ̶, organization ̶, poor work condition ̶, and spillover ̶related stressors, this study took into consideration the so called fall of public authority ̶related stressor. Analyses of the main effect, interactional effect, and mediational effect models revealed that stressors pertaining to organization, spill ̶over, and fall of public authority exerted significant positive effects on the outcome variables. What was more important than these main effects, however, was the interaction effects that were created in combination with negative coping strategy. Policy implications are discussed in view of the these findings.
