Abstract

This study explores determinants of criminal reporting on 'businesses' who have been marginalized in existing criminal studies. Specifically, it focused on theft, which is a property crime, among a variety of crimes. We also discussed and designed a research model focusing on the cost-benefit theory from an economic perspective, which could affect the reporting of crimes by businesses. The analysis data is 961 businesses that suffered from theft during the 2016 crime investigation. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows: First of all, the higher the amount of damage as a result of logistic regression, the more likely it is to report if it is damaged by unauthorized intrusion or if it receives compensation from the perpetrator. On the other hand, in terms of monthly sales, businesses with sales of less than 1 billion won and less than 500 million won are less likely to report than those with more than 1 billion won. In addition, if you look at the interaction effects of damage and monthly sales, businesses with monthly sales of less than 500 million won, less than 50 million won, and less than 30 million won were more likely to report theft. Finally, the interpretation of the above results and policy implications were discussed in conclusions and suggestions.
