교류집단의 사회적 지위가 경찰신뢰에 미치는 영향

초록

경찰 신뢰에 미치는 요인은 다양한데 기존의 경찰신뢰에 대한 연구들은 경찰 내부의 청렴도 및 성과 등에 주로 초점이 맞추어져 있었다. 하지만 한국이 낮은 공적 신뢰와 높은 사적 신뢰가 파당적 연결망으로 나타나는 ‘연줄’ 사회의 표본에 가깝다는 점을 고려할 때, 개인이 맺고 있는 교류집단이 경찰신뢰에 미치는 영향을 밝히는 연구가 필요하다. 이 연구는 교류집단의 사회적 지위 고저에 따라 경찰신뢰에 차이가 있는지에 대해 밝히고, 그러한 신뢰의 변화 정도가 개별 응답자의 계층에 따라 달라지는지를 확인하기 위해 다중회귀분석(Multiple Regression)을 사용했다. 사용에 분석한 자료는 2012년도 한국종합사회조사(Korea General Social Survey)이다. 분석결과, 개인의 주관적 계층의식 자체는 경찰신뢰에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 개인이 어떤 사회적 지위를 가진 사람과 주로 교류하느냐에 따라 경찰신뢰가 달라지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 교류집단의 사회적 지위에 민감하게 반응하는 것은 계층의식이 낮은 사람들이었다. 따라서 이 연구는 경찰신뢰 증진을 위해서 사회통합이 동시에 이루어져야할 과제임을 시사한다.

Abstract

The confidence in the police among citizens is so important that it can affect public order, a sense of security and even social trust. Although there are various variables which have the effect on confidence in police, yet those have been focused on corruption or performance. However, considering the contradictory fact that Korea has shown low public trust and high private trust, individual network needs to be studied in terms of confidence in police. This study tried to address not only whether there is the difference in confidence between social position of bonding groups but also variance in confidence is differentiated within respondents’ social position. For this purpose, this study attempts to conduct multiple regression analyses. The data is drawn from 2012 Korea General Social Survey. As a result, subjective class identification itself did not have an impact on confidence in police. On the other hand, what kind of people they interact with was statistically significant. As long as concerned with police confidence, people who have low subjective class identification were affected by interaction group particularly. Therefore, these findings hence conduce to the need to enhance the social integration for raising confidence in police in therms of social class.
