Abstract

This study examined Korean police officers’ perceptions of how well they used recommended techniques. Seventy women police officers working at the One-stop Centers or Sunflower Women and Children Centers were surveyed using a questionnaire soliciting self-evaluations of their interviews, assessments of their effectiveness and degree of adherence to the recommended interviewing guideline. Lastly previous training and feedback sessions they had were evaluated. Most police officers believed that they adhered to the NICHD Protocol with full understanding of each phase of the Protocol, They have difficulties to interview victims with disabilities, to elicit substantive issues and to evaluate credibility. As for the training, most police officers participated in the related training and feedback session previously satisfied their previous training and feedback. Lastly, offering better work environments and specialized training for interviewing vulnerable witnesses would bring actual benefits to the police officers.
