본고는 청마 문학에 지속적으로 나타나는 ‘고독한 산책자’의 이미지를 분석하고 해석함으로써 그의 문학 세계의 특징과 의미를 고찰하고자 하였다. 이러한 검토를 위해 토도로프가 제시한 ‘고독’의 행동 논리에 대한 설명을 주요 방법론으로 활용하였다. 그 결과, 청마 유치환의 문학에서는 ‘문자언어’에 대한 선호, ‘상상’ 세계와 ‘자연’에의 경도 등 ‘제한된 의사소통’의 양식들이 활발히 사용되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 하지만 보다 완전한 소통을 이루기 위해 시인이 선택한 이러한 간접적 방식들, 다시 말해 ‘대리보충의 논리’는 그 자신을 이방인으로 만드는 것이었고 나아가 타인을 탈인격화시키는 문제를 함께 갖고 있는 것이었다. 결국 다른 이들과의 진실하고 완전한 소통을 꿈꾸면서도, 그러한 목적을 이루기 위해 시인이 선택한 방법, 그 둘 사이에는 좁히기 힘든 ‘거리’가 항상 존재했고, 이러한 갈등과 모순 속에 그의 삶과 문학은 존재하고 있었던 것이다. 청마 유치환의 문학적 성취와 한계는 모두 이러한 구조에 기반을 두고 있다.
Abstract
This paper examined the distinct feature and meaning of Yoo Chi-Hwan’s literature by analyzing and interpreting the image of ‘lonely flaneur’ which appears consistently in his works. For this study I used the logic of action of ‘solitude’ which Tzvetan Todorov had proposed. As a result, I could confirm that the modes of ‘restricted communication’ like as preferring the writing(écriture) and dedicating to the world of ‘imagination’ and ‘nature’ was used considerably in Yoo Chi-Hwan’s literature. But these indirect methods, namely ‘the logics of supplement’ which the poet had chosen to attain the perfect communication had the problems of both making him a stranger and others impersonal. There was always the ‘distance’ which was hard to bridge the gap between the goal that he had wanted to reach the truly and perfect communication and the method he had selected. His life and literature exist in this conflict and paradox. And the achievement and limit of Yoo Chi-Hwan’s literature is based on this ironical structure.
