본 연구는 감정조절이론을 이론적 자원으로 활용하여 사회 구성원들이 가족과 관련한 다양한 정체성들에 대해 부여하는 감정적 의미(affective meaning)의 총체를 드러냄으로써 오늘날 한국 가족의 현실을 조명하는 한편, 세대별 비교를 통해 가족을 둘러싸고 진행되고 있는 변화의 실체를 규명하려는 시도를 담고 있다. 가족과 관련된 사회정체성의 3가지 감정적차원인 평가성, 권력성, 활동성 점수를 분석한 결과, 가족 관련 정체성들에 대한 응답자들의평가에서는 세대간 차이보다 합의가 두드러졌다. 부모, 자녀, 부부관계에서는 ‘부부 중심성’이 아닌 ‘어머니’ 내지는 자녀가 전제된 ‘부모로서의 부부’가 관계의 핵을 이루었다. 친족관계에서는 처가와의 정서적 거리가 줄어드는 양계화의 경향이 발견되었으나, 그 기조에는 여전히 가부장제의 견고한 뿌리가 존재하고 있었다. 곳곳에서 민주화가 빠르게 진전된 부분과 함께 젠더 관계와 세대 관계에서 여전히 불평등한 권력구도가 공존하는 양상 또한 발견되었다. 다양한 가족과 관련한 정체성들에 대해서는 여전히 부정적 인식이 팽배해있고 세대별로도 유의미한 차이가 전혀 드러나지 않아 가족의 변화가 구성원들의 인식 변화를 견인하지 못하고있는 현실을 엿볼 수 있다.
Abstract
This study reveals the affective meaning delivered by social members toward the diverse identities regarding family in general by using the affective control theory as a theoretical device. Through such attempt, this study penetrates the present picture of the Korean society and establishes the substantiality of the family transformation by comparing generational differences. As a result of analyzing the three affective dimensions of family-related identities which are evaluation, power and activity, generational agreement was stronger than opinion difference toward the family-related identities. In parent, children, and marital relation,‘mother-oriented’ or ‘child-focused marital relationship’ was the main spotlight rather than ‘partner-oriented’marital relationship. Although the affective distance with the wife’s family has decreased, strong roots of patriarchy still existing the base. Moreover, inequalities in gender relations and generational relation have shown to co-exist with the fast stream of democratization. However, negative perspective toward family-related identities still exists with no statistical significance with generational difference. Through such result, the transformation of the form of family does not affect the awareness of the family members.
