가족 관련 정체성에 대한 감정적 의미 비교연구: 한국, 중국, 미국의 대학생 조사자료를 중심으로

초록

이 논문은 가족 관련 정체성에 대한 한국, 중국, 미국 대학생들의 감정적 의미를 비교했다. 먼저 세 나라의 인물과 직업 등에 대한 평가 기준은 모두 친밀감, 책임감, 권력성, 활동성 4개의 차원으로 유사하게 나타났다. 하지만 각 차원에 대한 설명 비율은 모두 다르게 나타나 문화 간의 차이점을 보여주고 있다. 둘째, 가족 구성원에 대한 평가에 있어서도 문화 간 보편성과 특수성을 보여주고 있다. 세 나라 모두 남성보다 여성을 더 친밀하고 가깝게 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 가족 내의 권력구조의 측면에서도 차이점을 보이고 있다. 한국은 가장 남성 중심적인 권력구조의 특징을 보이고 있다. 가족 내에서 아버지나 할아버지, 시아버지의 권력이 높다고 평가되고 있다. 이 연구를 통해서 우리는 한국 사회에서 가족이 많은 변화를 겪고 있지만, 아직도 전통적인 가치관과 변화된 가치관이 공존하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그렇지만 타 문화와의 비교 결과, 한국 사회는 여전히 전통적인 특성을 더 많이 지니고 있었다.

Abstract

This study examines the cross-cultural universals and particularities in the family relations. For this purpose, the data of the family-related identities and their evaluation of Korean, Chinese, and the U.S. college students were investigated. The three nations’ evaluative criteria for family-related identities were categorized into four dimensions: sociability, responsibility, potency, and activity. In addition to that universal, particularities were also found in terms of potency structure. Korean and Chinese students showed more male-dominated potency structure. Finally, the U.S. students seem to have more stable value systems and expected roles for each family member. They showed lower variances overall in the evaluation of the family-related identities. Korea turned out to have the traditional senses of value mixed together with the changed ones as the family had been changing.
