한국의 금융시스템 변화: 금융화의 발전

초록

외환위기 이후 우리나라의 금융구조 변화와 금융화 진전 정도를 살펴보기 위해, 금융구조의 변화는 GDP 대비 주식시장의 규모나 활동성, 은행 대비 주식시장의 상대적 규모와 활동성, 그리고 기관투자가의 주식시장 점유 비중 등을 기준으로, 금융화의 진행여부는 금융부분 소득 대비 비금융부문 소득의 비율, 비금융법인의 영업잉여 대비 금융적 소득의 상대적 크기, 비금융법인의 유형자산 대비 투자자산의 상대적 크기 등을 기준으로 조사하였다. 그 결과 외환위기 이후 금융구조는 은행중심에서 자본시장중심 구조로 변화하였으며, 금융적 수익원리를 강조하는 금융화도 크게 진전된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 우리 경제에서의 금융화 진전은 결국 실물부문에서의 설비투자를 저하시키는 효과를 낳았다. 실제로 우리나라의 외환위기 이후의 설비투자 저하요인을 분석한 바, 투자부진은 경기순환적 요인만으로 설명할 수 없는 구조적 변화를 나타내고 있었는데, 이러한 구조적 변화에는 금융부문의 금융구조 변화와 금융화의 발전이 매우 중요하게 영향을 미쳤다고 평가할 수 있다.

Abstract

In the last ten years after financial crisis, the Korean financial system has undergone great transformation in the financial structure and the financialization. Financial structure, as measured by the ratio of size and activity of stock markets to GDP, the ratio of size and activity of stock markets to those of banks, and the share of institutional investors' equity holding, has transformed to market-based system from bank-based system. Financialization, as measured by the ratio of the profit of financial institution to the profit of non-financial corporations, the ratio of financial profits to non-financial profits in the non-financial corporations, and the ratio of the investment in capital assets to the investment in financial assets, has also been developed considerably since 1997. The development of market-based system in the financial sector and the financialization have had a profound negative impact on the real investment of Korea corporations.
