본고는 2000년대 이후 한국 대중영화 안에서 목도되는 기류 중 하나인 ‘모성’에관한 고찰을 시도한다. 이 시기 일부 한국영화들에 등장하는 모성성은 일차적으로가족관계를 통해 드러나지만, 기존 한국영화에서 흔히 발견되는 한국적 어머니로대변되는 ‘한’과 자녀에 국한된 희생의 모성이 아닌, 측은지심, 나아가서는 타자를끌어안는 박애주의로 확장되는 광의의 모성성과 연관된다. 본고는 논의를 위해2006년도에 개봉된 <가족의 탄생>, <괴물> 그리고 <열혈남아>라는 장르적으로 서로 대별되는 작품들을 분석대상으로 선정했다. 세 편의 작품에 대한 서사 분석을통해 모성의 재현이 모성성으로 확인되는 행위나 기호에 의해 드러남을 파악할 수있었다. 이를테면 모성성은 여성이나 어머니와 같은 특정 인물에 의해 전유되는 것이 아니라, 누군가를 ‘맞이하는’ 행위, '밥을 먹는' 행위, ‘돌아가는’ 행위 등 여러행위로 확장되고 있었다. 이때 ‘집’은 주체들이 정주하기를 원하는 순수의 공간으로표상되고 있었다. 그리고 이로써 성차에 따른 성 역할의 구분이나 성애화된 방식의모성 재현으로부터 벗어나, 남성 주체와 여성 주체가 공히 구현하는 확장된 개념의모성을 드러내는 징후를 도출할 수 있었다. 즉, 생물학적 어머니 또는 모성 신화의표상에 대한 도전으로, 섹슈얼리티와 그 재현으로서 영화 이미지에 대한 해체와 재구성의 욕망을 자극하는 영화들의 동학을 설명한다.
Abstract
This study attempts to examine ‘motherhood’, which is one of the currents which have been witnessed among popular film after the 2000s. The maternity shown in some Korean movies in this period is revealed primarily through family relations. However, it is not the same as the resentment represented as Korean mother commonly discovered in the existing Korean movies and the motherhood of sacrifice limited to their children, but is related to the maternity in a broad sense interpreted as compassion and further,philanthropism embracing the other. The study selected three works, <Family Ties>, <The Host>, and <Cruel Winter Blues>,which were released in 2006 and That are separated by genre. Narrative analysis of the three movies found that reconstruction of motherhood was revealed via acts or codes confirmed as maternity. That is, maternity was not appropriated by a specific character such as a woman or mother, but was extended to diverse acts such as an act of ‘greeting’ someone, ‘eating’ meals, ‘coming back’. This time, the ‘house’ was represented as space of purity in which subjects want to be domiciled. Hereby, deviated from the division of gender roles caused by sex differences or representation of motherhood in a sexualized manner, a syndrome showing an extended concept of motherhood which both a male and a female subject realize together was driven from the study. Thats is to say, as a challenge to the symbol of biological mother or motherhood-myth, there was a birth of films stimulating desire of restructure and deconstruction of filmic image as sexuality and its reconstruction.
