한국 신문의 트랜스젠더 재현: 취재관행 및 프레임 분석

초록

이 연구는 한국 신문의 트랜스젠더 재현 방식을 취재관행과 프레임을 중심으로 분석했다. 분석대상 기사는 <국민일보>, <조선일보>, <한겨레> 등 세 신문의 2001년부터 2020년까지 20년 간 트랜스젠더 관련 기사 695건이다. 취재관행 분석유목은 보도량, 기사길이, 기사유형, 게재면, 취재원 등 5개이고, 프레임 유형은 질병 프레임, 종교적 죄악 프레임, 사회 질서 혼란 프레임, 성적 대상화 프레임, 소수자 보호 프레임, 사회적 인정 프레임, 공적 권리 강조 프레임, 사회적 성취 프레임, 피해자 프레임 등 9개다. 분석 결과, <국민일보>와 <한겨레>는 보도량에서 관심도가 높았지만, <조선일보>는 보도량이 매우 적어 트랜스젠더 사안에 관심도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 취재원의 경우, <한겨레>가 성소수자 당사자와 관련 인권단체를 많이 이용하는 반면 <국민일보>는 반성소수자 단체와 종교계 비중이 상대적으로 높았다. <조선일보>의 취재원 이용 경향은 <국민일보>보다 <한겨레>에 가까운 것으로 나타났다. 프레임 분석결과는 취재관행 분석결과와 유사한 양상을 보였다. <한겨레>에서 소수자 보호 프레임, 사회적 인정 프레임, 공적 권리 강조 프레임, 사회적 성취 프레임, 피해자 프레임 등 대항담론의 비율이 압도적으로 높은 반면 <국민일보>는 질병프레임, 종교적 죄악 프레임, 사회 질서 혼란 프레임, 성적 대상화 프레임 등 지배담론이 더 많았다. <조선일보>는 프레임 분석결과가 모호하고 해석의 여지가 많게 나타났다. 전체적으로 한국 신문의 트랜스젠더 재현의 가장 두드러진 문제는 무보도 등 과소재현인 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

This study analyzed the transgender representation method in Korean newspapers, focusing on ‘reporting practices’ and ‘frames’. The total articles analyzed were 695 and all transgender-related in the three newspapers, Kookmin Ilbo, Chosun Ilbo, and Hankyoreh Newspaper, for 20 years from 2001 to 2020. To analyze these articles, ‘the number of reporting’, ‘article length’, ‘article type’, ‘edited page’, and ‘sourcing’ were used to examine ‘reporting practices’ and for the ‘frame’ analysis, nine types were used - disease frame, religious sin frame, social confusion frame, sexual objectification frame, minority protection frame, social recognition frame, emphasis for public rights frame, social achievement frame, and victim frame. As a result of the analysis, the Kookmin Ilbo and the Hankyoreh Newspaper have shown the high interests in the terms of the number of reports, but the Chosun Ilbo has shown very little interest in transgender issues. As for the sourcing, while the Hankyoreh Newspaper used a lot of LGBTQ people and organizations for human rights, the Kookmin Ilbo had a relatively high proportion of anti-minority and religious groups. The tendency of sourcing in Chosun Ilbo was closer to the Hankyoreh Newspaper than the Kookmin Ilbo. The frame analysis result shows a similar pattern to the reporting practice analysis result. The Hankyoreh Newspaper has put high weight on opposing discourses such as minority protection frame, social recognition frame, emphasis for public rights frame, social achievement frame, and victim frame, while the Kookmin Ilbo has produced more predominant discourses such as disease frame, religious sin frame, social confusion frame, and sexual objectification frame. The Chosun Ilbo’s frame analysis results were ambiguous and had a lot of room for interpretation. Overall, it was found that the most prominent problem with the representation of transgender in Korean newspapers was still underrepresentation such as non-reporting.
