Abstract
The number of foreigners residing in Seoul has been steadily increasing. Accordingly, creating a livable urban environment for foreigners has become an important task. This study aims to identify the urban environmental factors that influence the residential intentions of foreigners living in Seoul. Noting that foreigners tend to form residential clusters in specific areas, this study also investigates how the purpose of visa issuance affects their residential intentions. To conduct this research, data from the 2021 Seoul Survey on Urban Policy Indicators were used, targeting a total of 2,023 foreign residents in Seoul. Instead of measuring residential intention directly, this study used the intention to recommend Seoul as a place of residence as a proxy for behavioral intention. An ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed that satisfaction with the urban environment has a significant positive effect on the intention to recommend Seoul as a place to live. Furthermore, the subfactors of the urban environment influencing this intention varied depending on the purpose of visa issuance. These findings suggest that, to enhance the residential intentions of foreigners in Seoul, urban policies should be differentiated based on the purpose of their visa issuance, offering important implications for policy development
