Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of doing Seated-Exercise for 12 weeks on physical fitness and blood lipids in arthritis elderly women. Thirty six persons of arthritis elderly women over 65 years old participated in this study. They were divided into two groups. Twenty persons were put into the experimental group and the other sixty persons were made up of the control group. The exercise group took upon seated exercises composed of resistance and endurance training for 1 hour at one time, three times a week through 12 week time period, including warm-up and cool-down. The duration of the exercise increased by 10 minutes every four weeks. The results of the present study were as follows: first, the difference of body composition between the experimental and control group was not statistically significant after 12 - week's seated exercise (p>0.05). However, the fat mass and relative body fat of the experimental group significantly decreased by 11% and 6.6% respectively. second, all the physical fitness components between the experimental and control group were significantly different (p<0.05). In the experimental group, all the physical fitness components except for cardiorespiratory endurance significantly increased (p<0.05). However, upper muscular strength and crdiorespiratory endurance of the control group decreased by 10% and 9% respectively. third, there were no differences of all the blood lipid components between the experimental and control group. Also, Those was not significantly changed within both the experimental and the control group. In conclusion, the data from this study reveals that seated exercise for arthritis elderly women is an effective method to improve physical fitness, and have a positive effect on the body composition change. key words: Seated-Exercise, Fitness, Blood lipid, Arthritis
