Abstract
[INTRODUCTION] The purpose of this study was to determine effects of elastic band and aerobic exercise on fall related fitness, blood lipids, and vascular inflammatory markers in elderly women. [METHOD] Forty elderly women were randomly assigned to combined exercise (n=10), elastic band exercise (n=10), aerobic exercise (n=10), and control group (n=10). The subjects have performed the exercise program for 70 minutes a day and 3 times a week with warm-up and main exercise. The intensity for elastic band group was increased by band color and aerobic exercise group also was increased using the percentage of the maximal heart rate every four weeks gradually. The factors of the analysis were muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, balance, cardiovascular endurance, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C for the statistical data. [RESULTS] There were significant differences in muscular strength and endurance to combined exercise group compared with aerobic exercise and control group (p<.01). For Blood lipids, TC, TG, LDL-C significantly decreased, also elevated in HDL-C to combined exercise compared with elastic band exercise group and control group (p<.05), but there were no significant differences in vascular inflammatory markers among the groups (p>.05). [CONCLUSION] In conclusion, there were positive responses for blood lipids to combined exercise due to the increase of muscular strength and endurance in fall related fitness, but not for vascular inflammatory markers in elderly women.
