Abstract
The first purpose of this study was to investigate the acute stressor and coping strategy of national fencing players. Also, the second purpose of this study was to examine the effects of modified coping strategy according to the stressors on the national fencing players at the practice and competition field. The participants in this study were 11 national fencing players preparing to 06' Doha Asian Game. Depth interview was performed six times and education with subjects were conducted to explore the stressors, coping strategies and adapted coping strategies one times. Qualitative methodology was used to inductively analyze the interview transcripts. Also, paired t-test was conducted to find out the effects of modified coping strategies. The results were as follows. Six dimensions were catalogued as acute stressors in the practice field and four dimensions in the competition. The coping strategies were divided into approach coping and avoidance coping. Avoidance coping were more used than approach coping at the event, but approach coping were more used than avoidance coping at the practice field. Training of the modified coping strategies for two months resulted that quality training, arousal control, anxiety reduction, and concentration were increased at the training field and anxiety reduction, concentration, arousal control, and self confidence were increased at the event.
