Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of ghrelin ,adiponectin, and aerobic capacity by menopause and obesity, and also to exam the inter-relationship among the above three factors and body composition indexes. Female subjects participated in this study and they were classified by BMII>30 and %BF>25% as normal weight and obesity groups, and by menopause state as pre-menopause and menopause groups. G1 is defined as pre-menopause and non-obese (44.1±5.6 yrs, n=10), G2 is as pre-menopause and obese (42.5±7.8 yrs, n=10), G3 is as menopause and non-obese (51.4±4.8 yrs, n=17), and G4 is as menopause and obese (54.0±3.6, n=18). VO2max was estimated as an aerobic capacity, and weight, BMI, %BF, WC, WHR were estimated as body composition indexes. Independent t-test was performed to compare the differences of aerobic capacity, ghrelin, and adiponectin by obesity and menopause state. Two-way ANOVA was utilized to compare ghrelin, adiponectin, and VO2max differences by groups. Also, peason's correlations were used in total subjects to produce the inter-correlations between ghrelin, adiponectin and VO2max, body composition indexes. As results, adiponectin was significantly different by obesity. VO2max was significantly different between G2 and G3. There were significant correlation between ghrelin and VO2max. Also, significant correlations between adiponectin and BMI, body weight, %BF, waist circumference, waiast & hip ratio. These results indicate that management of cardiovascular risk factors, diponectin, would be possible by monitoring body composition indexes in menopaused woman. Furthermore, enhancing aerobic capacity can be used as therapy strategy in order to decrease cardiovascular risk.
