Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of three different temperatures on changes of cytokine during half marathon performance according to voluntary pace control. Eight students majoring in physical education who were able to run a half distance of marathon and had no health problems were recruited. They ran 20 km three occasions on a treadmill in each of 28, 17, and 12℃ of air temperature. During the tests, their Blood were collected and analyzed by Two-way ANOVA with repeated measure. A significant level were P<.05. Results were as follows; No differences were found in IL-1 β (P>.05), but statistical differences were found in IL-6 (P<.05). It appeared that this response was typical characteristics of cytokine such as acute appearance and discharge as well as inflammatory responses. Based on the results, IL-6 changes during long-distance endurance running were differently influenced by the temperature. This information was warranted such that it could be applied for physical performance of marathon and be utilized for a reference in diverse physical activities and health.
