우리나라 체육학은 지난 삼십여 년 간 많은 발전을 이루어냈다. 그럼에도 불구하고 역사나 철학 등 스포츠인문학 분야는 아직도 학문적 활성화가 미진한 상태이다. 오랫동안 진행되어온 스포츠인문학의 위기를 아쉬워하며 그 부흥을 도모하려는 노력이 최근에 시도되고 있다. 그러나 그 노력은 여전히 스포츠철학과 체육사학중심의 메아리에 그치고 있다. 인문학의 삼대 영역이 “문사철”(문학ㆍ역사ㆍ철학)이라고 할 때, 스포츠문학에의 본격적 관심이 일어나지 않고는 스포츠인문학의 진흥이 완성될 수 없다. 이 연구의 목적은 스포츠인문학의 한 영역으로서 그동안 진행된 스포츠문학의 발전과정과 현황을 살펴보고 국내에서의 성장 가능성을 탐색해보는 것이다. 제2절에서는 스포츠문학의 개념과 발전과정을 스포츠문학이 발달한 미국을 중심으로 되돌아본다. 제3절에서는 스포츠문학을 스포츠소설, 스포츠시, 스포츠자서전, 스포츠에세이의 네 장르로 나누고, 각각의 장르영역에는 어떤 대표적 작품들이 있는지 살펴본다. 최근 우리나라에서 스포츠문학의 현황은 어떠한 지를 간단히 덧붙인다. 제4절에서는 스포츠문학이 스포츠종목에 대한 다양한 이해, 청소년 인성교육에의 활용, 상처받은 마음의 치유 등에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있음을 알아본다. 마지막으로 스포츠문학의 발전을 위해서 우리나라에서 시급히 실행되어야하는 과제로서 학문적 연구의 활성화, 스포츠문학 작품에 대한 인식확대, 초중고등학교 국어와 체육수업에서 스포츠문학의 적극적 홍보 등이 필요함을 주장한다.
Abstract
The field of sport studies in Korea has grown a lot in the last thirty years. But the subdisciplines in sport humanities such as sport history or philosophy have not developed as much such social and natural studies as sport physiology or sport psychology. Sport humanities researchers have missed the good old days before the disciplinary movement in kinesiology and currently put efforts to revitalize the field. However, they are still focusing on sport philosophy or sport history that is quiet not successful in its progress for the last three decades. The revival of sport humanities is not possible unless the genre of sport literature(SL) is recognized and supported for its development. The purpose of this study is to review the process of development and identify its possibility for a main area of sport humanities in Korea. The concept and development process of SL in United States of America are described in the next section. The following section shows the four main subgenres of SL, that is novel, poetry, autobiography, and essays. Representative works are identified and summarized in bried forms with authors and yeas of publication. The recent works of SL in Korea are briefly introduced in the final part. In the fourth section, the utility of SL is identified in three ways. Sport Literature can be usefully employed by us as a device of understanding, a means of moral education, and a way of biblotheraphy. Finally, the three most important tasks for the development of sport humanities in Korea are outlined.
