이 연구는 박두진 시인의 후기 수석시에 나타난 ‘돌’이 시적 공간과 긴밀하게 연결되어 있다는 통찰에서 시작되었다. 특히 본고는 그의 첫 번째 수석시집 『수석열전』에 나타난 ‘돌’의 공간화 양상에 초점을 두어, 시인의 공간의식이 다층화되면서 인식의 깊이를 더하는 양태를 구체적으로 조명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 흐루쇼브스키의 지시틀 이론을 활용하여 수석시의 공간 메타포를 언술의 차원에서 분석하였다. 박두진의 수석시편에 구축된 공간 메타포는 돌이 물의 공간으로 전이되는 ‘자연적 공간화’와 초월성에 토대한 ‘우주적 공간화’의 두 갈래로 이행되고 있었다. 전자는 유동성에 의해, 후자는 응축성에 의해 수석시의 미감이 형성되고 있었다. 이로써 박두진 시인이 초기시부터 추구해온 초월성에 토대한 이상세계가 그의 『수석열전』에 이르러 궁극점을 마련하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또 돌의 은유 공간으로 드러난 이상세계가 시인만의 독자적인 상상력 속에서 구축되는 것도 볼 수 있었다. 본고는 박두진 수석시의 ‘돌’이 상징을 넘어 은유로 이행됨과 더불어 시적 공간의 미학적 특질로서 메타포 양상을 밝힐 수 있었다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한 박두진 시인이 지닌 공간 인식의 다층적인 결을 살피고, 그의 공간 상상력의 유연함을 짚어볼 수 있었다는 점에서도 의미를 지닌다.
Abstract
This study begins with an insight that the “stones” in poet Park Du-Jin’s later Suseok poems are closely connected to a poetic space. In particular, focusing on the aspects of the spatialization of “stones” appearing in his first collection of suseok poems, Suseok-Yeoljeon, this study seeks to shed light directly on the phase in which the depth of awareness is increased as the poet’s consciousness is multi-stratified. For this purpose, the study analyzes spatial metaphor in Park Du-Jin’s Suseok poems in the dimension of enunciation, utilizing Hrushovski’s theory of the frame of reference. The spatial metaphor constructed in the Suseok poems was seen as transforming into two parts: “natural spatialization,” in which stones spread into the space of water; and “cosmic spatialization,” based on transcendence. The sense of beauty has been formed in the Suseok poems by fluidity in the former and by condensability in the latter. Through this, the study found that an ideal world based on the transcendence that the poet Park Du-Jin had sought from his early poems in fact prepared an ultimate point in his Suseok-Yeoljeon. In addition, it was noted that the ideal world revealed as the space of the stones metaphor was constructed in the poet's own imagination. This study is significant in that it reveals how “stones” in Park Du-Jin's Suseok poems transform into a metaphor beyond a symbol and also reveals the aspects of metaphor as the aesthetic quality of the poetic space. Additionally, this study has significance in that it examines the multi-layered texture of the poet Park Du-Jin’s spatial thought and addresses the flexibility of his spacial imagination.
