본 논문은 수도권 지역개발이 주민의 삶의 질에 주는 영향을 공간적 자기상관성이란 개념을 적용해 밝히고자 한다. 특히 경기도 소재 신도시 및 그 주변지역을 중심으로 발생하는 공간적 군집의 유형과 유의성을 확인하기 위해 Moran’s I 분석, 공간가중회귀분석, LISA분석을 실시했다. 여기서 분석자료로 쓰인 ‘제1차 경기도민 삶의 질 조사’는 경기도 지역 2만 가구를 대상으로 2016년에 실시한 가구방문조사이다. 분석결과 개인의 삶의 만족도로 측정된 평균적인 삶의 질 수준은 신도시가 다른 지역에 비해 높게 나타났다. 나아가 신도시와 그 인접지역 사이의 공간적 이질성은 뚜렷하며 유의하게 나타났다. 이런 결과는 신도시개발이 그 주변 지역에 사는 주민의 삶의 만족도를 낮출 개연성이 있음을 강하게 시사한다. 결국 개발에서 배제된 지역에 거주하는 주민이 느끼는 상대적 박탈감은 지역개발에 따른 의도치 않은 결과이다.
Abstract
This study aims to explicate the impacts of regional development on resident’s quality of life, considering spatial autocorrelation. We employ several spatial quantitative methods such as local Moran’s I analysis, spatially weighted regression (SWR), and LISA analysis to identify the patterns and significance of spatial clustering centered around new urban centers. As an empirical case study, we analyze a large-scale household survey microdata obtained from a survey of quality of life conducted in 2016 to the residents of Gyeonggi Province comprising Seoul Capital Area. The results indicate that the average level of quality of life, measured by a person’s life satisfaction, in new urban centers is significantly higher compared with other areas. Further, as the LISA map shows, spatial heterogeneity between new urban centers and their adjacent areas are conspicuous and significant. This implies that developing a new urban center may lower the level of life satisfaction for those who stay outside. If so, relative deprivation thesis can account for such unintended consequences.
