이 논문은 세계 3대 영화제인 제 67회 베니스(2010), 제 62회 베를린(2012),제 66회 칸(2013) 영화제를 참관하고 언론에 발표한 글들을 논문형식으로 수정한것이다. 필자는 문화체육관광부에서 위촉받아 국내 개최 국제영화제 평가위원을3년간(2008∼2010) 역임한 바가 있다. 이 논문은 세계 3대 영화를 참관한 바를바탕으로 한국영화계에 도움이 되고자 한다. 베니스 영화제는 1932년 세계에서처음으로 창설한 국제영화제다. 제 67회 베니스영화제(2010)는 관람료를 시간대별로 다르게 하고, 게스트에 대한 무조건적 환대가 아닌 선별적 환대 등으로 실속을 차리면서도 취재진에 대해서는 다양하게 취재활동을 배려하는 등 국제영화제가 갖춰야 할 미덕은 갖추고 있었다. 제 62회 베를린영화제 (2012)는 영화에사회적 가치를 담아내는 영화를 선별한 것이 돋보였다. 이는 우리 사회를 바람직한 사회로 변화시키는 한국 영화가 많이 제작되어야 한다고 생각되었다. 제 66회칸영화제(2013)는 영화제가 추구하는 가장 중요한 가치와 심사 기준이 독창성이라는 점을 다시 한 번 깨우쳐줬다. 다양한 나라에서 초청된 상영작들은 각기 그나라가 가진 문제를 진지하게 성찰하며 독특한 스타일로 메시지를 전달했다. 또한 영화 전문가와 관계자만으로 소통, 운영되면서도 높은 품질을 유지하는 칸 영화제의 운영 방식은 국내에서 개최하는 영화제가 국제성보다는 지역축제 형식에기우는 것과는 다른 모범이 될 것이다. 이 논문은 세계 3대 영화제를 참관하고이를 분석한 최초의 논문이라는 데 의의를 지닌다.
Abstract
This paper is a revised version of the articles published afterobserving top three film festivals; the 67th Venice International FilmFestival(2010), the 62th Berlin International Film Festival(2012), the66th Canne Film Festival. I had been appointed as an internationalfilm festival evaluation staff by Korean ministry of culture, sports,and tourism for three years (2008∼2010). I hope this paper wouldcontribute to advance of Korean movie industry. Venice International Film Festival was established in 1932 for thefirst time in the world. The 67th Venice International Film (2010)Festival not only took what really matters by adopting time-basedcharging and giving selective hospitality for guests but also hadproper virtue as an International film festival by looking to it thatjournalists can cover freely. The 62th Berlin International FilmFestival (2012) was outstanding by having selective films that havesocial virtues inside. More Korean films need to be made for changing our society to more desirable way. The 66th Canne FilmFestival (2013) refreshed that the most important value and judgingstandard is the originality of the entries. Each film earnestly reflectedthe issues they have inside their country and conveyed a message inunique style. The festival will be a classic model for the internationalfilm festivals in Korea in terms of its operation method that enablesto keep high quality while running only by film experts andparticipants since Korean film festivals go leaning toward thedomestic festivals rather than international ones. This paper is the first paper that analyze the observation of the topthree international film festival.
