2013년 시작된 무주산골영화제는 부산국제영화제나 전주국제영화제 등에 비해 규모는 작지만 내실 있는 영화제로 성장해 왔다. 무주산골영화제는 영화 관련 인프라가 부족한 무주에서 지역민의 영화 향유권 보장에 기여했다. 또한 ‘자연과 공존하는 영화제’를 목표로 천혜의 자연환경을 자랑하는 무주의 휴양산업과 영화제를 연계시키는 전략을 통해 양적 성장에 집중했던 기존의 영화제와 차별화에 성공했다. 이 논문의 목적은 12회를 맞은 무주산골영화제의 성과와 의미를 되짚어보고, 지역 영화문화 발전을 위한 무주산골영화제의 역할에 대해 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내외 영화제의 발전 과정을 통해 영화제의 형태와 운영 방식이 어떻게 달라지고 있는지 살펴보았다. 또한 영화제 관객의 특징에 대한 이해를 기반으로 향후 무주산골영화제를 비롯한 영화제들이 지향해야 할 가치는 무엇인지에 대해서도 살펴보았다.
Abstract
Muju Film Festival, which began in 2013, has grown into a substantial film festival in Korea. Above all, Muju Film Festival contributed to the guarantee of the right to enjoy movies for local people in Muju. In addition, Muju Film Festival succeeded in differentiating itself from other film festivals that focused on quantitative growth by linking leisure industry in Muju. The identity of Muju Film Festival is well revealed in its slogan "Film Festival Coexists with Nature”. The purpose of this paper is to review the achievements of the Muju Film Festival and to examine the role of the Muju Film Festival in the development of local film culture. To this end, we examined the development process of domestic and international film festivals and the changes in the value and purpose of film festivals. In addition, through understanding the characteristics of the festival audience, we also examined the values that film festivals including the Muju Film Festival should pursue in the future.
