이 연구는 교양 글쓰기 교육에서의 ChatGPT 활용 가능성과 한계를 짚어 보고 수업 현장에 적용할 수 있는 방법을 도출하기 위한 것이다. 최근 언론과 미디어에서 ChatGPT의 능력을 앞다퉈 보도하면서 새로운 기술에 대한 학생들의관심이 커지는 한편, 글쓰기 수업에서 이를 악용하는 것이나 글쓰기 윤리에 어긋나는 상황에 대한 우려도 커지고 있다. ChatGPT가 ‘사고 과정으로서의 글쓰기’를 인간처럼 해낼 수는 없을 것이라는 의견도 있으나, ChatGPT의 초고 작성 능력은 형식과 내용 면에서 예상 밖으로 뛰어나고, 아이디어 구상부터 문제제기, 목차 작성, 고쳐 쓰기 등 글쓰기의 전 과정을 완벽하게 수행해 낸다. 그러므로 전통적인 글쓰기 교육 방법만을 고수하며 ChatGPT의 활용을 금지하는방식은 비현실적이다. 이제는 수업 현장에서 학습자나 교수자가 능동적으로ChatGPT를 활용할 방법을 고민해야 할 것이다. 이에 이 논문에서는ChatGPT가 글쓰기의 전 과정에서 어떠한 역할을 할 수 있는지, 그리고 그 한계는 무엇인지 살펴보고, 문화비평문 쓰기 수업에서 ChatGPT를 단계적으로활용할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This study delves into the possibilities and limitations of employing ChatGPT within the context of general writing education and explores methods for actively integrating ChatGPT into classroom environments. As media coverage highlights the astonishing capabilities of ChatGPT, students’ curiosity about this novel technology intensifies. However, concerns regarding its potential misuse and ethical implications in writing education also escalate. While some skeptics reject the notion of ChatGPT replicating a human-like “thinking process” in writing, it has proven to exceed expectations with its advanced generation abilities in both form and content, seamlessly covering the entire writing process, from ideation to problem-solving, outlining, and editing. As a result, maintaining a rigid adherence to traditional writing education methods and outright prohibition of ChatGPT’s usage appear unrealistic. Instead, there arises a necessity to carefully contemplate how learners and instructors can actively harness the potential of ChatGPT in the classroom setting. This paper thoroughly examines the diverse roles ChatGPT can assume at each stage of the writing process while also identifying its inherent limitations. Moreover, we present a gradual approach to effectively integrating ChatGPT into cultural criticism writing classes.
