본 연구는 독일 정치교육에서 영화교육 사례를 제시하고 그 사례를 참고하여 국내 대학 교양 글쓰기 교육에 적용할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 현재 교양 글쓰기 수업의 상황과 수준에 맞는 영화의 활용법을 구체화하고 전문화하려는 시도는 여전히 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 독일의 정치교육이 시민교육으로서 국내의 교양교육과 그 목표를 공유한다는 사실에 주목하여 두 교육의 목표와 교육의 주제 영역을 비교하였다. 독일 정치교육은 독일만의 문제뿐만 아니라 자본주의, 양극화, 고령화, 기후위기 등 전 세계가 직면한 다양한 사회⋅정치⋅문화의 문제를 교육의 주제로 삼고 있다는 점에서 국내 교양 글쓰기에서 일반적으로 다루는 주제와 유사하다. 독일 정치교육은 이러한 주제를 교육 현장에 구현하기 위해 이미 오래 전부터 영화를 활용해 왔다. 그 성과를 보여주는 <영화의창> 사이트는 영화교육을 위한 체계적이고 구체적인 교수법과 관련한 자료를 제공한다. 따라서 ‘토론’, ‘글쓰기’, ‘창작활동’으로 이루어 진 <영화의창>이 공개한 영화 교수법과 개별 영화에 대한 교수법을 참고하여 대학 교양 글쓰기 수업을 구상한다면, 글쓰기 예비단계로서 영화의 내용적⋅미학적 특성을 폭넓게 이해하고 이를 통해 다양한 주제를 도출할 수 있는 글쓰기 활동의 참고자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the applicability of film-based teaching practices in German political education to liberal arts writing courses at domestic universities. Currently, attempts to concretize and specialize the use of films in accordance with the context and level of liberal arts writing courses remain insufficient. Therefore, this study highlights the shared goals between German political education as civic education and domestic liberal arts education, comparing the objectives and thematic areas of both. German political education addresses not only issues specific to Germany but also global socio-political and cultural challenges such as capitalism, polarization, aging, and the climate crisis, which align with the topics commonly covered in domestic liberal arts writing. German political education has long utilized films as a medium for addressing these topics in educational settings. Notably, the “kinofenster” website demonstrates systematic and detailed teaching methods and resources for film education. Drawing on the detailed activities and pedagogical approaches to individual films provided by “kinofenster,” which encompasses ‘discussion,’ ‘writing,’ and ‘creative activities,’ this study proposes a framework for liberal arts writing courses. By leveraging the aesthetic and thematic characteristics of films in the preparatory stages of writing, students can derive diverse topics and engage with writing activities enriched by the insights gained from film-based education.
