본고는 비유의 초월적 유사성에 대하여 현대시가 어떻게 대응하여 왔는지 살펴보는 데 목표를 두었다. 이 목표를 달성하기 위해 먼저 김준오의 개념들(유사성, 연속성, 동일성)을 검토하면서, 유사성을 초월적 차원에서 이해하는 전통적 관점의 특성을 살펴보았다. 김준오는 유사성이 현상적인 단절 이면에 존재하는 잠재적 차원에서 이미 주어진 것으로 해석하였는데, 그 근거는 자아와 세계의 동일성이라는 시적 본질이다. 다음으로 초월적 유사성을 비판하는 흄의 불연속적 실재관과 이미지즘 이론에 대해 살펴보았다. 탈마법화라는 근대의 기획에 따라 이루어진 이런 비판은 비유(특히 은유)의 환각적 동일시를 비판하며, 현상의 표면적 유사성을 명확하게 제시함으로써 비유의 탈마법화, 탈초월화를 강조하였다. 또한 이미지즘 시에서 비유의 유사성이 자주 발견되는 것은 탈초월화라는 본질 때문에 생긴 비유 운영의 제한에 의한 것이라는 사실도 밝혔다. 마지막으로 탈마법화의 기획에도 불구하고 현대 시인들이 초월성을 새로운 방식으로 소환하는 예를 제시하였다. 현대 시인은 탈마법화의 패러다임이 장악하고 있는 시대에 초월성을 직접적으로 노출하지 않으면서 이를 비유적 연계를 통해 표현하는 새로운 전략을 택하였다. 그것이 바로 ‘초과현실’의 제시이다. 이것은 근대 탈마법화의 기획에 대한 일종의 저항이라는 점에서 주목할 만한 가치가 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to examine how modern poetry has responded to the transcendental similarity of metaphors. To achieve this goal, I first reviewed Kim Jun-oh's concepts(similarity, continuity, and identity), and examined the characteristics of the traditional perspective of understanding similarity of metaphors in a transcendental dimension. He interpreted the similarity of metaphors as already given at the potential level that exists behind the phenomenal disconnection, and he presented the poetic essence of identity between the self and the world as the basis. Next, I examined T. E. Hulme's discontinuous view of reality and the theory of Imagism, which criticizes transcendental similarity. His criticisms, made according to the modernist project of disenchantment, criticized an illusory identification with no-self of metaphors and emphasized the de-magicization and de-transcendence of metaphors by clearly presenting the superficial similarities of phenomena. Finally, I reviewed modern poets and their poems that summon transcendence in a new way, despite the situation in which the modernist project of disenchantment dominated the world. Modern poets have chosen a new strategy to express the transcendence through a figurative connection without directly exposing it. That is the presentation of ‘excess reality’. It is worth noting that this is a kind of resistance to the modernist project.
