고등학교 문학교육에서 이강백 희곡의 활용 양상

이 논문은 고등학교 문학 교과서에 수록된 이강백 작품의 현황을 살피고 학습 활동을 통해 교육적 활용 양상을 분석하여 희곡교육을 위한 제언을 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연극의 대본인 희곡은 문학성과 연극성, 공연성을 함께 추구하는 장르로서 희곡교육은 영상 매체를 주로 향유하는 현시대의 학습자에게 필요한 극 해석 능력을 함양시킨다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 이강백의 작품이 수록된 고등학교 문학 교과서는 총 7종이며 수록된 작품은 ｢결혼｣, ｢파수꾼｣, ｢북어 대가리｣이다. 교과서의 분석은 작품 수록 양상, 학습 활동, 보충 자료로 나누어서 진행했으며 개별 작품의 특성 또는 작품별‧교과서별 비교를 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과 작품 수록 양상으로는 원문의 정보를 누락한 경우 및 발췌가 특정 부분에 한정되는 경우가 있었다. 학습 활동의 특징으로는 인물 및 사건(갈등), 시대적 배경, 창작하기, 극 갈래의 특징의 범주에서 각각 분석한 결과 대체로 학습목표에 부합하는 학습 활동을 제시하고 있지만 정작 희곡이라는 장르적 특성이 잘 드러나지 않는 경우가 있었다. 끝으로 작가 설명, 작품 해제, 다른 작품의 제시로 이루어진 보충 자료 분석 결과 학습자가 작품을 이해하고 학습 활동을 수행하는 데 부수적인 도움을 주는 역할을 하고 있어 별도의 수정사항은 발견하지 못했다. 교과서 분석을 바탕으로 한 제언은 원작의 특성을 반영하여 작품을 수록하고 설명을 제시할 것, 희곡교육의 목표에 부합하는 학습 활동을 설계할 것, 연행(演行)이 어려운 문학교실의 현실에서 보완점을 찾을 것, 이상이다. 희곡교육의 목표인 극 능력 함양을 위해 대사와 공간 설정을 고려하는 학습 활동을 제시하였고, 연행을 대체하는 활동으로 낭독하기와 온라인 상황극 제작을 들었다. 이 연구는 문학 교과서에서 수록 빈도가 높은 이강백의 작품에 집중하여 교육적 활용 양상을 살펴본 것에 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study examines the inclusion of Lee Kang-baek’s works in high school literature textbooks, analyzes their educational applications through learning activities, and provides recommendations for drama education. As dramatic texts, plays have literary, theatrical, and performative characteristics. Drama education is particularly meaningful in modern society, where students primarily engage with visual media, as it fosters essential dramatic interpretation skills. Seven high school literature textbooks include Lee Kang-baek’s works, specifically Marriage, Watchman, Head of Dried Walleye Pollack. This study analyzes the textbooks in terms of three aspects: inclusion patterns, learning activities, and supplementary materials. The findings reveal that some textbooks omit key information from the original text, whereas others selectively excerpt certain sections. An analysis of learning activities based on the categories of character and plot(conflict), historical and social context, creative writing, and dramatic genre characteristics indicates that while the activities generally align with learning objectives, they often fail to highlight the unique features of the play genre. Finally, an analysis of supplementary materials—such as author introductions, work summaries, and references to other works—suggests that they effectively support students’ understanding and engagement with the text, and do not warrant major revisions. Based on textbook analysis, this study proposes (1) including works that reflect the characteristics of the original text with appropriate explanations, (2) designing learning activities aligned with the objectives of drama education, and (3) identifying complementary methods for classrooms where theatrical performances are difficult to implement. To cultivate dramatic abilities—a key goal of drama education—this study suggests learning activities that consider dialogue and spatial settings, as well as alternative approaches, such as reading aloud and creating online role-playing scenarios. The significance of this research lies in its focus on Lee Kang-baek’s works that are frequently included in literature textbooks and the analysis of their educational applications.
